This is the Sikh version and a take-off from the well known Befrienders, a social support group that provides telephone support for people in trouble of any kind. In the Sikh community, we do not as yet have a definite structure in place that a person needing help can approach or call, although various organizations in the Sikh community have been providing this noble service for a long time.
Sikhfrienders telephone numbers are published on posters and call cards, and also made available at public places like Gurdwaras. Common areas where people need help are ; managing debt, drugs and alcoholism, family problems like raising difficult children, marital problems, emotional distress due loss of job, bereavement support at time of loss of loved one and the like.
